South Fork CO Fire Ban

CRITICAL FIRE NOTICE:

STAGE 2 RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT

Effective immediately, the Rio Grande National Forest and South Fork Fire and Rescue have implemented strict Stage 2 Fire Restrictions due to extreme fire danger. Protect our community and public lands by knowing what is allowed and what is strictly forbidden.

Please note, the resort has decided to keep the rules consistent for all campsites, regardless of whether there are trees or grass nearby.

🚫 NOT PERMITTED: STRICTLY PROHIBITED

• Campfires: Absolutely no campfires of any kind, including wood, charcoal, or propane fire pits.

• Solid Fuel Grills: No cooking devices that use pellets, charcoal, coal, briquettes, or wood.

• Open Flames: Any outdoor open flame that cannot be instantly shut off via a valve.

PERMITTED: EXTREMELY LIMITED USE

• Propane Stoves & Grills: Using a stove or grill that is solely fueled by a liquid petroleum or propane tank (such as a Blackstone or a standard propane grill).

• Shut-off Valve Required: The device must feature a functioning on/off switch or valve that instantly extinguishes the flame.

• Safe Clearance: Devices should only be operated in areas completely cleared of all flammable vegetation.

⚠️ Why Pellet Grills Are Banned

Pellet grills burn solid wood fuel. Unlike propane gas, the heating source cannot be shut off instantly because the pellets continue to burn and smolder after the power is switched off, posing a severe spark risk.

One spark is all it takes to start a wildfire. Please do your part to keep South Fork safe!
